Houghton Feast joy for Boars

The Boars continued with there impressive start to the season, this time with a scalp against a team they have never beaten before. The selection committee had some major headaches this week, but not in a bad way. After some oohs and arrghs a squad of 25 was selected for this top of the table clash. However players turning up with kit who weren't selected and a few drop outs seen a 27 man squad available.

The warm up went well and everyone seemed focussed on the task ahead. Straight from the kick off Houghtons forwards showed there intentions taking on the Ponteland pack who they had loaned 3 players. A lineout seen a good Lydiatt take and Charlton made the 1st break before a knock on halted play. A further lineout 3 minutes later again seen the back released this time Parkinson made the yards before a forward pass called back play. This allowed Ponteland there first attack, at the breakdown Maggiore stayed offside and the away side claimed 3 points.

Houghtons forwards again made good yards and this was rewarded on 15 minutes, when Charlton stepped inside a rushing defence to score under the posts which he converted. From the kick off a good catch seen Birtley break through middle evading 3 would be tackles before putting Jarvis in at the corner.
Houghton maintained the pressure on Ponteland and the forward drives were beginning to where the opposition down. A scrum inside the Ponteland half seen Birtley break again, somehow second-row Turnbull was on hand to finish of the move. From the Kick off Ponteland attacked the left flank before putting in a huge kick. Confusing between Pearson and Bromely ssen the ball spilled as both players called for the ball. From the resulting scrum Pontland score a good try going through the phases.
The rest of the half belonged to Houghton and some good attack play brought them deep in Ponteland 22. A penalty was rewared amd a quick tap seen Macdonald take out 3 players before offloading to Harvery who scored.

The second half became very stop start, with Houghton using as many players as possible to allow game time. For every good move created a knock on occurred. Missed tackles were well into double figures for both sides slowing the game down to a snails pace. Lineouts became static and sloppy the only strong point was the Houghton scrum. Houghton did however manage 2 further tries, Douglass taking a lovely crash ball taking out 4 would be tackers to score under the posts in which he converted. The second 2 minutes from time seen were a solid Houghton platform saw Danny Bradley scoot round the corner to finish the day off.
